In the morning we played a lot of games. The games involved a lot of movement, so each team started by stretching. Whoever knew a good stretch taught other team members how to do it.
In this game students and staff join hands and try to stop balloons from hitting the floor. If a balloon hits the floor, or someone stops holding hands, then its GAME OVER. It’s pretty easy when there is one balloon, but how about 2, 3 or 4! Things get out of hand pretty quickly, but it’s a lot of fun.
Then we slowed down and practiced the trust lean. This is a pair activity. One person falls backwards and the other person catches them. It amazing how scary it is falling backwards. As your confidence in the other person grows, you increase the distance between faller and catcher. It’s really important to talk to your partner in this game to let them know how you feel…and make sure they catch you.
Teacher Fancy Dress
The final game is teacher’s fancy dress. There are hundreds of fancy dress items to choose from. A teacher from each team goes and sits on a chair. Then their team chooses lots of crazy fancy dress items to make them ‘beautiful’. It’s like the Paris fashion week for monsters! The teachers are really positive and muck around too. Really, the only thing you can do is laugh!
After the fancy dress, we sat outside the Memorial Hall and ate bento together. It was a massive beef bento. For dessert we had a range of snacks and a special gift-set of Okayama sweets. The champion teams get to choose first, but all the gifts are very tasty. Right at the end we had a group photo. It was great to see so many smiling faces at the end of a busy morning. Everyone had such great energy and positivity. It’s going to be a special year.
